Site hosting and domain names
It is vital to consider where - and how - your site will be hosted from the very start...
Where - on which type of server, and at what speed - will your site be hosted? This consideration is, wrongly, often left until much later. But through an arrangement with our strategic partners, we can immediately offer functional hosting using a wide choice of web technologies on a range of servers connected to leased lines running at speeds of up to 10Mbps.
Small sites can be adequately supported by a shared server arrangement - that is to say, on a machine that supports a number of other sites too. This is inexpensive and requires the minimum of set-up time.
Dedicated servers
For larger and more complex sites, we recommend use of one or more dedicated servers that will host a single site only. This will incur additional costs, but guarantees full use of server resources by your site.
Finally we would stress that, while we are not a hosting company ourselves, the fact that we work closely with the hosters means that we can guarantee that sites will have the full range of necessary functionality available and that we have full control over the server administration.
Test server
Besides the main server, Albedo maintains its own test server (on which this site is hosted). Although we do not host paid-for sites here, we can set up passworded test versions of the site on this machine so that progress can be verified at each stage of construction.
