Webbed featsIt would be quite inappropriate for a content management company to maintain a content-free site. So this is where we put the miscellany, from technical demos to old projects of ours. The price of frames Frame-based sites were all the rage in the late 1990s. But in the light of modern approaches, we ask if using frames has any further point. Designer frames What is quite inexcusable, and this persists to the modern day, is the sloppy approach to site coding and structuring that use of frames has often encouraged. Frames do not have to be totally unusable and inaccessible - here are some common mistakes and how to fix them. Technical demos The technological base of the web is ever-changing. So we are continually evaluating and re-evaluating different software technologies. One approach is to take a very simple database project and reimplement it using different methods. That rather dry concept is reflected here, but we will also be adding demos with greater interactivity in the future to keep you amused. Cold Fusion VBScript (ASP) PHP Perl Python Jscript Perlscript Javascript VRML Ghosts on the machine It is common to all web firms that, for reasons quite outside their control, sites they have worked on - frequently their pride and joy - will disappear from the web or will be reworked by others in a form that makes them unsuitable entries in a corporate portfolio. This is 'portfolio rot' and the only positive thing to say about it is that it does keep us on our toes. In remediation, however, we have been able to rescue a few fragments of websites that we were very pleased with - at least at the time.
